Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Adults
Serving Arlington, Alexandria, and the DMV
Our BJJ Program for Adults
We have a LOT of BJJ classes because we believe it is one of the most accessible, full contact sports ANYONE can do safely. If you have never grappled before, we recommend you start with one of our five “Intro to BJJ” classes.
If you’ve trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for more than six months to a year, you might not need this introduction. Please come to one of our “All Levels” classes or open mat!
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art focused on controlling a resisting opponent, usually by pinning them or taking their back, then isolating their limbs or neck for a submission.
A keynote of this sport is overcoming greater size, strength, and aggression with technique. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip, and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body.
Our “Intro to BJJ” curriculum covers the major submissions, pinning positions, pin escapes, major guards, and guard passing.
Our July 2024 BJJ promotions; seven blue belts, four purple belts, and our first black belt!
Benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
SELF DEFENSE: While we hope to never be in a situation requiring self-defense, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides the foundation of ground survival techniques and how to neutralize strength and size in an opponent.
SELF CONFIDENCE: Building self confidence is a lifelong journey. BJJ is something that will return to you whatever efforts you put in. BJJ is also a sport where you will encounter failure frequently. Through practice and discipline, you can make progress in any facet of life and overcome any obstacle.
GREAT EXERCISE: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides by aerobic and anaerobic training. We have a lot of live training opportunities where students build physical and mental endurance. Much of sparring also requires burst of energy in between more relaxing movements. It’s good for your heart, mind, body, and soul!
FRIENDS AND COMMUNITY: It is very common for people who train together to also become friends as they help each other reach their own goals. We encourage all of our students, regardless of level, to learn something from everyone in the room.
